DP Rigathi calls out Mombasa governor over the county's emergency response.
Deputy President yesterday led a relief food and essential items distribution drive in Kisauni, Mombasa.
The mission targeted flood victims who have either been displaced or marooned and consequently disrupted from undertaking their normal economic activities.
While speaking to residents who turned up, the deputy president accused Mombasa governor Abduswamad Sheriff Nassir
of neglecting the victims at their hour of need.
The deputy president who was accompanied by Nyali MP Mohammed Ali among other elected local leaders said that the flood situation in Mombasa had been made worse by poor response from the county government.
DP Gachagua added that the plight of flood victims was not solely a national government duty, noting that county governments are expected to play a critical role in helping victims of this natural phenomenon.
He urged governors across the country to allocate and release funds for response to Elnino rains.
The deputy president is in charge of the national emergencies multi agency that has mobilized all the relevant government bodies and development partners in dealing with the adverse effects of the ongoing Elnino.
