The book is an autobiography of a father and a daughter, two seemingly ordinary people who did extraordinary things! The book includes many themes; secrets, rejection, polygamy, illness, grief, financial difficulties, alcohol abuse etc. It also has the themes of Unconditional Love, Healing, Friendship, Exceptional Career Success, Arsenal Football Club, Rhumba, Forgiveness and so much more. 
 

The Author of the book Deborah Auko Tendo, is  a multi-lingual who shocked Kenyans by Peaking both Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya in the same year. Rough Silk details an incredible story of George Auko and the Mirror that has been held out to the Kenyan society.

She is also a world traveler who has done more than 100 countries around the world and educates her following on different cultures.
Her book Rough Silk. is a biography about her life with her Dad as she was raised by a single Dad.

In 2023, the book was nominated as the only book from East Africa, and featured at the Times and Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival in the UK. The Times, the largest selling broadcast newspaper in England.

The Cheltenham Literature  Festival is the oldest festival there is in the world and top three most popular, because of its age, it hosts some of the most prolific books and their authors every year.
