Government to pay coffee farmers Kshs 80 per kilo in advance payment.
Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has today hosted key coffee sector players and farmers representatives to finalize on the modalities of the distribution of the coffee cherry fund.
In a consultative meeting at his Karen residence, the deputy president said that the government had allocated an additional Kshs 4 billion on top
of the Kshs 2.7 billion initial fund allocation to payout farmers.
This will see farmers receive an advance payment of Kshs 80 per kilo up from Kshs 20.
The deputy president added that the move was meant to cushion farmers from being adversely affected by the ongoing coffee sectors reforms.
