Kindiki deploys additional forces to combat insecurity in Meru.
Interior and national administration CS Kithure Kindiki yesterday gave a detailed response to end the livestock theft menace that has in recent months turned the Meru - Isiolo border area volatile and insecure.
the region, the CS ordered for the establishment of additional security camps for the Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and the General Service Unit (GSU) special forces in Igembe North.
To augment this, he also initiated the training for 140 new National Police Reservist, NPRs, and emphasized the need to depoliticize security operations while warning against anyone inciting or supporting banditry.
The move comes just a few weeks after cabinet gave a nod for the addition of Meru - Isiolo border region and Lamu as special operation areas.
Professor Kindiki commended the efforts of security officers who have so far recovered a significant number of the stolen livestock and conducted a security strategy meeting with various regional and local security teams urging them to soldier on until the insecurity was permanently tackled.
