DP Rigathi Gachagua joins other Heads of State and Government for the AU Committee of the Ten (C-10) on Reforms of the United Nations Security Council in Equatorial Guinea. He will address the 9 other members, representatives of AU and UN this afternoon on why Kenya remains committed to reforming
the UNSC.
During the Summit,Deputy President is expected to also contribute to discussions around the Common Africa Position, which among other demands calls for:
1. Enlargement of the UN SC to a membership of not less than 26.
2. Maintain the two categories- Permanent and Non-permanent with no intermediate,
3. Additional two permanent seats and two no permanent seats for Africa, increasing representation to 7seats (permanent and non permanent)
4. Equatable regional representation reflecting UNGA membership.
5. Veto power be abolished, but if retained, it be extended to the new members including Africa (upon reforms and inclusion to the Permanent seat)
