DP Gachagua spearheads government Elnino response.
Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua on Monday led a host of government officials, special aid programs and development partners in overseeing government operations in the coast region which has borne the blunt of the Elnino rains.
Besides assessment of the infrastructure damages and the inspection of the ongoing relief operations to the
affected families and households, the second in command participated in distribution of assorted essential items and food.
He went on to urge governors across the country to treat the floods as a priority emergency noting that some governors were yet to commit funds to the emergency despite having the funds.
Gachagua recently had a public spat with Mombasa governor over what the deputy president termed as a poor response to the Elnino.
The deputy president told locals that the government had put in place measures to ensure roads and bridges that had been cut off or washed away would be redone once the rains subside.
