Environment, Climate Change and Forestry CS Hon soipan Tuya on Saturday beseeched Kenyans to make Monday a successful tree planting public holiday by ensuring each plants at least 2 trees.
Tuya added that if each Kenyan was to plant 2 trees on Monday, the country would easily hit a target of
100 million tree seedlings that day.
With climate change taking centre stage in President Ruto's administration, the government has set a 15 billion trees target in the next ten years in a bid to attain the recommended 30% forest cover.
Soipan added that all systems are in place to ensure that Monday will be a successful tree planting holiday, the president expected to lead the country in the exercise where he shall plant trees in Makueni.
Interior PS Raymond Omollo on Saturday assured the country that his National Government Administration Officers, NGAO were ready to implement the tree growing initiative to the grassroot level.
To give impetus to this, he announced that the government through Kenya Forest service had made available tree seedlings in the subchief offices across the country.
