sub-sector since the sector is a key driver of the Kenyan economy with animal production contributing about 3.6% of our GDP.
The CS assured the livestock industry players of the ministry’s commitment to unveil sexed semen to livestock farmers before Christmas this year at subsidized rates to boost livestock genetics and production in the country.
He encouraged students studying courses in the agricultural sector that the Kenya Kwanza Government will strive to mechanise and modernise the crucial sector in our economy through the use of modern technologies.
The CS announced that from mid December, the government will make available insemination services at a lower cost.
Linturi stated that the government is working round the clock to ensure that henceforth farmers only get the superior semen and at a lower cost.
In the new dispensation, farmers will have AI services capped at a maximum of Kshs 3,000.
At the same breathe, Linturi impressed on maize farmers across the country to sell their maize to NCPB at Kshs 4,000 per bag.
The CS said that the government shouldn't be held liable for lower prices by the farmers who will choose to sell their maize to brokers out to make huge profits.
