Kenya Air force in partnership with Redcross and Wajir county government yesterday airlifted relief food to flood-prone areas in Wajir County that were unreachable by road.
The soldiers proceeded to assist in distribution of the relief food to the affected families.
The government on Friday last week announced a multi agency approach
headed by the deputy president to ensure that Kenyans affected by Elnino get the requisite assistance on time.
The Kenya Defence Forces is expected to play a critical role as they did yesterday.
The aim of the exercise was to reach out to residents of Wajir who have been affected by the heavy rains that have continued to pour in the region.
Wajir County government in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross secured relief food that was distributed to the residents of Dadajibula whose roads were completely cut off by the floods and can only be accessed by air, where the Kenya Air Force aircraft was used to airlift the aid.
Speaking during the exercise, Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdulllahi thanked the Kenya Defence Force's (KDF) for the support they had given the county by airlifting the relief food to the areas that could not be accessed by road.
Further, the 6th Brigade commander Brigadier Saif Rashid empathized on that the KDF is dedicated to assisting the civil authority when called upon.
Present during the exercise were Base Commander Wajir Air Base, Brigadier Stephen Sane, officers,Wajir County Government officials and Kenya Red Cross officials.
