Locally manufactured pharmaceuticals to be prioritized

Speaking when commissioning the Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDs) Microbiology Lab at Syokimau, Nairobi, the head of state said that local manufacturing of pharmaceuticals will save the country Kshs 76 billion annually and put Kenya on the path of exporting pharmaceuticals.
The president said that the Kenya Kwanza government
had put in place policy measures to support local manufacture of pharmaceuticals as locally made medical supplies are cheaper and will go a long way in making the recently launched universal health coverage a reality.
The president urged for more investment in the sector, adding that there was immense opportunity for the sector to grow.
The president pledged that KEMSA would give priority to locally manufactured medical supplies as a way of encouraging even more investments.
The head of state was flanked by Health CS Nakhumicha Wafula among other players in the health sector.
